Product Spotlight: Embedding Analytics with Jaspersoft: Key Differentiators and Functionality

TIBCO Jaspersoft is one of a handful of products that specialize in embedded analytics. Almost all of its 2,000+ commercial (i.e., non–open source) customers embed the product in applications. A majority of its customers are independent software vendors; the rest embed Jaspersoft into internal or customer-facing Web pages.

Created in 2001 by a Java developer who needed to embed reports into applications, the product is well positioned to capitalize on the growing demand for embedded analytics. Jaspersoft was known as an“open source BI” vendor during the 2000s, since it was one of the first BI vendors to offer a community version of its software—which it still offers—along with a commercial edition. TIBCO acquired Jaspersoft in 2014. Given its heritage, it’s not surprising that TIBCO Jaspersoft offers significant advantages over products that were not designed from the ground up to support embedded analytics.

The explosion of cloud applications and self-service customer portals has increased demand for embedded analytics. Independent software vendors (ISVs) increasingly outsource reporting and dashboard capabilities to analytics specialists. Likewise, many organizations now embed analytics into customer-facing portals and Web applications to foster self-service and greater customer loyalty in the digital age.

These trends have created a vibrant market for analytics products that can be easily integrated with other applications and customized to mimic their look, feel, and functionality. The market for embedded analytics is expected to reach $51.78 billion by 2022, growing at a 14.1% compound annual rate, according to research firm Markets and Markets.
